Where to Shop for Groom Wear in Delhi : Reader Query
BY The WMG Bride | 11 Apr, 2014 | 3 views | 4 min read
There needs to be some term coined for grooms going ballistic, you know like how we have ' Bride -Zillas?'. You see Anonymous wrote in to me saying :
"While I know I dont need to look beyond Wed Me Good for the brides side of things, Im a bit lost on the groom. My hubby-to-be has turned into a total bridezilla and he can't seem to find anything he likes for our engagement and wedding. Please suggest some affordable options in Delhi"
Well firstly anon, Im pretty sure that hubby to be is going to be up in arms on being called a bride-zilla ;) (Groom-gorilla should we call it? haha). While our Groom Wear Section on Wed Me Good Vendor Gallery is coming soon, here is a quick list for those who cannot wait for that.
The Big Name Designers
Karan from our 'Karan & Isha' Real Wedding wore Rohit Gandhi & Rahul Khanna from Gallery at MG . Photo by Phototantra
- Gallery at 1 MG: This mall on Mehrauli Gurgaon road looks pretty deserted but has some decent groom wear options. Top of the list if Rohit Gandhi and Rahul Khanna for their sharp, tailored Bandh galas
- DLF Emporio: The ultimate luxe destination for all things wedding - this houses Ashish Soni and Raghavendra Rathore- both absolutely stellar for Groom wear. Also, Ashish Soni is actually quite a steal for the kind of stylised oufits he offers. Love his tuxes and bandhgala, and Raghavendra Rathore well- probably the Sabyasachi of Groom Wear !
Tushar, from Rupan and Tushars Real Wedding wore Sabyasachi. LOVE this sherwani and stole. So elegant! Photo by Neal Kartik
- Sabyasachi: Speaking of Sabyasachi, 2013 saw a whole host of grooms wearing Sabya sherwanis. Did you see the mint sherwani on Band Baaja Bride. Stunning !!!
The Lesser Known Designers
- Karan Nasir: He has one showroom in Gurgaon (Grand Mall) and one in Lajpat and he has a range of some really great options. While some stuff does venture into a bit into the 'bling' zone, most of the others has some interesting cuts and silhouettes to check out
- Libas by Riyaz Gangji: This designer in South Extension has some nice sherwani options for the groom who wants to experiment with something different. Some of the sherwanis are a bit too heavy with work all over but some others are nice so worth a dekko
- Jivjeet SIngh House of Couture: While Jivjeet doesn't do sherwanis as such, he makes some killer made to measure suits and indo western outfits. He runs a bespoke mens tailoring boutique with some of the most understated, chic suits for men. Check him out here
- Amit Arora for Gopal Sons: Apart from the fact that this has some uber cool Nehru Jackets, this store also houses tuxes, sherwanis in a lot of different styles and colors. Its not often you get to see a mint sherwani but well, we saw it here. This store is in Connaught Place, right opposite the PVR there.
- Shahpur Jat Area: A small area with boutiques mostly for bridal trousseau wear, this place also houses 1-2 standalone groom wear boutiques. While we dont recommend you go here solely for groom wear, chances are you will be visiting this area for your bridal trousseau, so drop in and take a look!
The Local Stores:
Ooh do these people look familiar? Thats us on our engagement. The boy wore Narains !
- Narains: One of our personal favourite places for Groom wear (WMG Co Founder 2 actually bought his sangeet outfit from here), this one is classy, understated and the designer in store Arzoo is absolutely brilliant in helping you choose something different from the regular run of the mill option
Cream sherwani at SBJ- Like the pearl detailing
- Study by Janak: With stores spread across South Ex, Karol Bagh, and Gurgaon SBJ is probably one of the first places Grooms in delhi head to!
- Gujralsons: You will have to hunt here, (like really sift through stuff), but sometimes you land up with a gem. The variety caters to a lot of different kind of grooms- the ones who love bling, the ones who want to just be understated, the ones who love color. We personally like the colored nehru jackets (Coral colored nehru jacket= gorgeous)
- Studio One (Malviya Nagar): Must visit store for sherwanis and indo western outfits that are modern, chic and elegant! Check them out on their website. Their outfits have a high style element, and we love the pathani suits here with the roll up sleeves and buttons. So uber chic!
- Other names: Manyavar (Very affordable), Diwan Saheb, Raymonds
