Wedding Invitation Wordings in India : Ideas I Love
BY The WMG Bride | 31 Jan, 2014 | 3 min read
When i was getting married , I literally did not care about what went on my wedding invitation card ! I swear they could have written Dodo marries Doink and i wouldn't have noticed . My mom did most of the research and she came up with a generic wording that looked somewhat like this!
The Generic Indian Wedding Invitation Wording
Mr. {Insert Name of your dad} & Mrs {Insert Name of your Mom}
cordially invite you to the wedding of their darling daughter
{Brides Name}
with
{Grooms Name}
(son of Mr.{Insert Grooms Fathers Name} & Mrs {Insert Grooms Moms Name}
at
{Insert Venue}
Reception of Baraat: Timing
Feras: Taaron ki Chaao mein (This is the standard wording used for late night feras)
PS: People always asked me why it said ' Darling daughter' for the bride and not 'darling son' for the groom but im sorry there arent any appropriate adjectives beginning with S ok!
So yeah, my card looked like that, with another insert for the cocktail, which instead of my mom and dad cordially inviting everyone, it was my brother and sister cordially inviting everyone ! The last page was a whole word cloud of diff family members (We had close to 75 names on the cloud- you know what happens when you miss a family members name on an Indian Invitation right? All hell breaks loose in Punjabi Aunty heads!)
But the point of this post is, there are so many more, unique wedding invitation wordings that you need to consider.
Unique Wedding Invitations
- Put a love quote in your card . Something that signifies you as a couple . It could just be on the last leaf- something like " Love is friendship set to music"
- Put a line from your favourite song in your wedding invitation . I would put "Yr still the one" by Shania Twain
- Thank the guests in your cards. Look at this one i just recieved which said :
"Your love and friendship have helped us become who we are. Together with our parents, we invite you to share our joy and support our love, as we exchange our 7 vows and celebrate our marriage."
- Tell a story in your invite I recieved a card which was inspired by the Kani Shawl in India and they had this entire leaflet of how the Kani shawl is a legacy an is passed down from generation to generation on weddings (I didnt really get the point of it, but hey if it floats your boat)
- Insert a picture of you and the groom (your pre wedding shoot) into the invite. I LOVED this. Recieved a card where they did this an it was so unique and personalised
- Put confetti in your wedding invite. Giggle ! I would love to open a card with sprinkles of Confetti!!! So fun and sets the mood for your weddin being one big party haan?
