Meet Punya & Roshan
"Roshan and I met in our last year of high school. He was a new student in our school and I totally developed a crush on him. We started talking after I used to call for 'math help' and after many many conversations he asked me out when we were both in university in Hong Kong. 7 years, a lot of growing up and a year of long distance from New York later, he came back to Hong Kong to propose. :):)" explains Punya.
The Mehendi
Cocktail & Wedding
From The Bride-to-be:
"Since we both have been working for a while, we didn't want to burden our parents with the bulk of the wedding costs and wanted to pay for as much as we can ourselves. After a bit of convincing, they were on board. We chose Shimla because it's my hometown and it meant the world to my grandparents to have the first grandchild married at home, plus it was like a destination wedding for Roshan's family many of whom hadn't been to India in years.
We didn't want to have a over the top wedding but instead wanted it to be a fun 2 days for all our nearest and dearest & most importantly US (it's our wedding after all and we both didn't want to just sit around a stage), who braved the long journey to Shimla. So after speaking to many planners and realizing they won't be in our budget, I decided to plan it myself (using WMG as a guide and stalking it daily! No jokes).
Weddings have the great ability of bringing families together and ours was a giant family project. My Masi who is an amazing designer made all the clothes, all the wedding signage was done by me, Roshan's sister created the itinerary and my Bhua made thank you cards. In the end we managed to pull off a personalized wedding with many DIY elements from bubbles as I entered to a bonfire and popcorn at the after party, and we all had an amazing time making it all happen," says Punya.
