First of all, let us start by saying that curvy,  happy brides are prettier than slim, unhappy brides , and  we say no matter what your weight, go ahead and revel in it on your wedding day. But we have been flooded with emails from brides trying all sorts of crazy weight loss antics to look great on their big day and honestly girls- its NOT worth it. Stay fit, Stay healthy but crash dieting and living on one measly fruit a day is going to ensure your skin loses all its radiance on the big day which by the way is miles more important than your weight. So if you DO want to look slimmer, here are a few neat tricks while picking out your outfit !

1. If tummy is your problem area then pick a high waisted lehenga with a slim belt, or if you are wearing a saree then pick a blouse that ends just a centimeter above your petticoat. With a slim belt and a high waist, your lehenga is tied  way above your navel, thereby camoflaging any fat there may be on it. Plus, you can then experiment with a crop top as the area around your rib cage is the slimmest for anybody. If you are getting a regular lehenga then make your blouse end just a centimeter above it.

2. Tight fitted, three quarter length , semi sheer sleeves do the trick: Have weight issues around your arms? Get semi sheer sleeves in georgette and net and have them fitted till the elbow. They look elegant, and the tight, snug fit ensures your arms look slimmer. However picking a bulky fabric in full sleeves can only add to the weight.

3. Fabric matters: As much as you love raw silk, it does tend to add bulk to your body . Pick a fabric that is fluid like georgette or even the new varieties of velvet which drapes and gets into folds. Fabrics that tend to stand stiff like raw silk can again, add to the full silhouette - pick fabrics that give you an A-line silhouette

4. Contour your face: Your makeup artist should be doing this already, but its amazing how a bit of bronzer and highlighter can make your face look ten pounds slimmer.'

5. Pick patterns that are smaller versus larger: Getting a printed lehenga- pick one with a smaller print? Getting embroidered motifs on your lehenga? Pick smaller motifs scattered evenly as opposed to larger motifs placed sparsely

6. Blouse neckline and jewellery pay a big role: Ensure your blouse neckline  is wide and low (high necks add volume to you) and pick a necklace that is not a choker but placed delicately around your neck . It also may be a good idea to get a relatively simpler blouse and delicate jewellery as opposed to chunky jewellery

7. For the curvy girls wearing Kanjivarams: The key is to ensure your pleats all don't create bulk in one place. By spreading them out just a millmeter from each other, and ensuring they stay pressed down you can cut down on that bunched up look heavy silk sarees tend to give. The other key is to ensure the pleats on your shoulder are super neat and pressed down, and your saree drape cuts acrodd your pleats right at the edge.

8. Go monotone: Pick one color and go with it. It creates one single illusion from top to bottom and gives a slimmer look. If you love contrast then go ahead and pick variants of that one color , but more or less- pick a color from top to bottom instead of getting a different blouse, dupatta and skirt in different colors

9. Drape your dupatta saree style:  Red carpet bride Veethi did one of the smartest jobs of picking her outfit. Not only did she pick a monotone lehenga with small motifs, she ensured she took a tight, saree drape where the dupatta was tucked in tightly from one end, and when it was taken over the shoulder, the edge of the dupatta just touched the end that was tucked in.
