Ageless Clinic says

“A lot of brides and grooms are opting for laser hair removal before their big day and rightly so! Here are some dos and don’ts.

  • Do time your laser hair removal sessions around you big day. At least have your last session a month before your big day.
  • Do your homework . Different hair removal lasers work for different skin colours and hair types so know before you target all kinds of hair. For example, Diode works for thicker darker hair, whereas Alexandrite lasers work on finer hair and nd:YAG works for rough course hair. Now, there are even combination laser like the advanced Alma Soprano Platinum®, which combines all three laser wavelengths to target all kinds of hair with one single device.
  • Do know that hair removal isn’t permanent, hair reduction is. Routine touch up sessions once a year or every few months may be required to remain completely hair free.
  • Don’t pick a service provider solely based on pricing. Understand the technique and device.A lot of devices these days are US FDA approved, so do not take a chance with your skin go for these ones, go check the reviews online before deciding. Also make sure a trained technician with proper experience is working on you. Your health (and beauty) is not worth the risk!
  • Don’t assume all hair removal lasers are painless, not all clinics have the latest technology
  • Don't assume that one session is enough. We wish that was true but laser hair removal is a science not magic. Hair growth occurs in three stages: anagen (active), catagen (regression), and telogen (resting). Laser technology is designed to target hair in the anagen phase. Hair that may have been dormant during previous laser hair removal sessions may now be active, and this hair will be targeted in the next session. This is why a series of treatments is necessary, so hair can be targeted as it moves into the growth phase. Once a follicle is successfully destroyed, it won't grow back."

Dr Nirupama Parwanda, Zolie Skin Clinic says

“Laser Hair Reduction is fast becoming very popular in brides-to-be considering that it is an effective, quick, pain free and easy alternative to other forms of hair removal like waxing, hair removal creams. Here are some dos and don’ts.

  • Do choose a skin clinic which offers a US FDA approved DIODE laser for Laser Hair Reduction for much more effective results and a safe treatment.
  • Do start with the laser 6-12 months before D-day as laser hair reduction results are not immediate and multiple sessions are needed.
  • Don’t allow excessive sun exposure. Before and even in between the laser sessions wear a good broad spectrum sun screen so that you are well protected from getting the treated area irritated and increasing the inflammation.
  • Don’t get the first laser session just a month before the wedding. It may not suit your skin.”

  • Do consult a dermatologist prior to any kind of hair reduction laser for proper assessment of skin and treatment of underlying triggering hormonal issues, if any.
  • Avoid too much sun exposures and always use a sunscreen in your routine skin care on exposed skin and cover yourself or use umbrellas while stepping out.
  • Don’t pluck, wax & thread, methods where you are pulling the hair from its root, 4 weeks before your session
  • Hydrate your skin well with proper water intake and by applying the right moisturizers.
  • Do not rub, scratch or exfoliate the skin vigorously and let any kind of crusts to shed off on its own.
  • Apply moisturizers to keep the skin soft. Avoid strenuous exercises, makeup or any other cosmetic procedures, at least 24 hrs after hair reduction.
  • If any kind of complication like minor burns, folliculitis or tenderness occurs post procedure contact your dermatologist immediately.
