7 Things No One Else Will Tell You Before Booking Your Photographer....

BY The WMG Bride | 03 Jun, 2017 | 4 min read

Recently, I was on the receiving end of a rather cranky friend and recent bride. Anyway, she ranted for a full 20 minutes about her photographer (and a few other things..honestly I had zoned out and was watching Shark Tank on mute while doing the customary hmmm and 'hawwww') and the more she spoke , I realised that the problem really was the fact that expectations really hadn't been set right before hand. And so being the amazingly supportive friend I am, I grabbed the laptop, thought of a nice click baity title (see what I did there) , and decided to write a post on things you should know before booking a photog.

You might have to ask them separately for a Sangeet performance reel

Okay, so here is the thing. Modern day cinematographers are used to giving you a 4 minute trailer, and a longer around 40 minute film. But your performance itself spans around 30 minutes right - so at best there are bits and bobs of it in the 40 minute film (I swear my keyboard keeps auto correcting bobs to....you know what) . So you need to inform your photographer before hand that your performance reel needs to be captured seperately.

Videography is expensive, but only if you want the fancy kind only

There are people who love wedding films- those kind of magical stories created when the photographer interviews the couple and their family and then stitches a story together. But if you are someone who wants to preserve photos and dont care much about video (I think you should care about video but hey there are different people out there) , then you may want to just get a regular traditional video team to do coverage at 1/4th the cost

You checked out all daytime photos and your function is at night

A good photographer is a good photographer no matter when he/ she shoots. But if you have oohed and aahed over all the day weddings you saw at this wonder boys wedmegood profile (umm ..because hello where else would you check it)  and are now wondering why your indoor night wedding is just not looking as vibrant - then its not the shooters fault. It's always good to check out night time and indoor functions of the photographer too so that you can be prepared and have the right expectations.

You need storage for the digital files

The photos you get, they'r each going to be pretty heavy . And you are going to want to preserve them for the day you probably have kids and they make fun of your awkward fashion choices(Hey Im not saying you are awkward but your kid will- thats what they do). So how are you going to store it? A pen drive? Likely to get lost. Get a hard drive to store these or maybe put them on your google drive or something so you have a space.

Hiring two diff teams for girls and boys side is stupidity

First of all, you end up paying double because the same team would give you a much better rate for filming both sides. But also, imagine 4 drones and 8 photographers staring into your face when you have a 4 kg lehenga and no food while everyone else is enjoying . You might end up punching them. I probably would.

Your makeup artist call time will depend on your photographer.

Your photographer will take your bridal portrait shots pretty much just after you are ready. There have been so many brides who write in saying their makeup started late, ended late and the photographer didn't have enough time to capture all the gorgeous photos she wanted because she had to rush out. So ask your photographer before hand when they plan on doing portraits and leave ample time

This will be one spend you should not try to scrimp on

Trust me, I  love nothing more than to give you a money saving hack .. I'm like the Monisha from Sarabhai vs Sarabhai. But ten years later if you have a regret it will be not spending enough on preserving what may be the most beautiful day of your life. For me, the most beautiful day was when DLF Emporio had a flat 50% off ...but I get it. Priorities.

Ok, now Im going insert a customary link to check out our photographer showcase...just because...

XOXO
